2. Weight

The empty weight (or own weight) of a school backpack usually does not exceed 1,300 grams. You will find many specific kilogram specifications on the internet. However, always keep in mind with these and many other reference values that the school routes on which the school backpack is carried on the back usually do not exceed 20 to 30 minutes. However, the reference values come from a time when children walked school routes of quite 45 minutes or longer on foot.

PELVIC FIN BELT

The pelvic fin belt encircles your child's waist and ensures that the weight is better distributed. By relieving the shoulders, the school backpack feels significantly lighter.

TIP: WEIGHT INCLUDING SCHOOL SUPPLIES AND FOOD

In most cases, children do not carry the school backpack empty. To find out if it is too heavy, there is a simple method. Just look from the side to see how far your child leans forward. Up to 15 degrees, that is a slight forward bend, is completely normal here. If the bend goes significantly beyond that, reduce the weight if possible.

TIPS FOR SAVING WEIGHT

We recommend using a school bag with as little empty weight as possible anyway, since your child already carries a heavy load with all the school books on their back.

- Pack the school bag together with your child the evening before and make sure they only pack notebooks and books they actually need at school the next day
- Also use a lightweight lunchbox and water bottle
- Avoid unnecessary ballast like sticker albums or stuffed animals

A good weight distribution is important: pack heavy books at the back so they are carried directly against the back, and light items at the front.

3. Volume: Size in liters

During elementary school years, the need for work materials is fortunately still lower, so school backpacks with a volume between 18 and 24 liters are completely sufficient. Depending on the child's height, we recommend a maximum of 20 liters volume up to 105 centimeters and up to 24 liters volume from 115 centimeters. Due to the continuous ergonomic development of school bags in recent years, they already prevent posture damage from the outset. Therefore, you should only understand the liter numbers as guidelines and always individually check whether the size is appropriate for the child and not overwhelming.
